School Counseling, Post-Master's Certificate

Post-Masters Certificate in School Counseling
This certificate provides course requirements and supervised fieldwork to prepare for school counselor certification in the state of Connecticut. Candidates for this certificate program must hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling or a related helping profession. In addition, candidates must complete prerequisite courses in psychology, counseling, and education (required for CSDE certification). The certificate includes 20-credits of required courses – 12 credits of course content and 8 credits of fieldwork. Candidates are required to complete a 700-hour, 10-month long supervised internship placement within a school setting. No comprehensive exam or thesis is required.
Program Prerequisites
- Masters in Counseling OR related helping profession
- Matriculation in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at SCSU
- Practicum in Counseling
- Praxis-Core, SAT or ACT scores taken within the last 5 years
- Teaching the Exceptional Child Course (State Special Education Requirement)
- CSP 570 Ethical and Legal Issues in School Counseling Services (2) or equivelant
